What is the eventID for?

When you view the domain logs of recent versions of JSCAPE MFT Server (9.1 and above), you'll often see a field that says 'eventId=' followed by a string of characters. This usually accompanies trigger-related entries.

The event ID is meant for troubleshooting purposes. It's designed to make it easy for whoever is viewing the logs to associate a single event with one or more trigger executions.

Here's how log entries representing a single trigger execution look like with eventID's:

2018-04-20 18:43:23 - - - - - - - "trigger queued" "trigger=TEST DOWNLOAD; eventId=07fbbb3e-9dfr-40e8-9d10-4ac8a86377d1" - -
2018-04-20 18:43:23 - - - - - - - "trigger started" "trigger=TEST DOWNLOAD; eventId=07fbbb3e-9dfr-40e8-9d10-4ac8a86377d1" - -
2018-04-20 18:43:23 - - - - - - - "action started" "trigger=TEST DOWNLOAD; eventId=07fbbb3e-9dfr-40e8-9d10-4ac8a86377d1; action=com.jscape.inet.mft.workflow.actions.TradingPartnerRegexFileDownloadAction" - -
2018-04-20 18:43:24 - - - - - - - "action completed" "trigger=TEST DOWNLOAD; eventId=07fbbb3e-9dfr-40e8-9d10-4ac8a86377d1; action=com.jscape.inet.mft.workflow.actions.TradingPartnerRegexFileDownloadAction; message=0 files matched '*.*' regular expression have been downloaded" - -
2018-04-20 18:43:24 - - - - - - - "trigger completed" "trigger=TEST DOWNLOAD; eventId=07fbbb3e-9dfr-40e8-9d10-4ac8a86377d1" - -

In most instances, several other log entries might be interspersed between the log entries shown above. Some of those entries might even belong to other trigger executions. In such situations, it would be almost impossible to trace even a single trigger execution without event IDs. The presence of eventIDs allow you to isolate trigger execution entries that have the same eventID.

Sometimes, multiple triggers that execute at approximately the same time can have the same event id if those triggers  are listening for the same event type and responding to the same event.
