If you are able to connect to the FTP server but unable to get a directory listing or transfer files there are several things you can check.

1. Is your FTP client using active or passive connection mode? If using active mode then the issue may be that your client is behind a firewall or router that uses NAT software. Try using passive mode to see if this makes any difference. If you continue to have trouble continue to step 2.

2. If you are using passive mode but still unable to get a directory listing or transfer files then it may be that the server is responding with an internal IP in response to passive client requests. The client is unable to connect to the internal IP (LAN) and is instead expecting an external (Internet addressable) IP. To address this issue you need to set the server to respond with an external IP to passive requests. This can be set in the Services > FTP > Passive IP field in JSCAPE MFT Server Manager. If you continue to have trouble continue to step 3.

3. If making the changes identified in steps 1 and 2 do not help then the issue is likely that the firewall in front of the FTP server is not properly configured to allow FTP connections. In order for clients to connect to the FTP server the firewall must allow inbound connections on port 21 (default for FTP) and port 990 (default for implicit SSL). In addition, a port range must be defined in order to handle passive connections. This port range can be defined in the Services > FTP > Passive port range fields in JSCAPE MFT Server Manager. This same port range should be defined in your firewall, allowing inbound connections on these ports. Each time a directory listing or file transfer is made a new random available port in this port range is used. Therefore you should make the port range large enough to handle multiple client connections simultaneously. An example passive port range might be 1200-1300.
